Figured I would start a thread for this set of off season interviews.

The Colts would probably first look internally - if there are any defensive position coaches that they think could take the step up to coordinator. Jonathan Gannon was someone who could have been promoted but he went to Philly with Sirianni.

If there are no internal candidates, Reich may select someone he has coached with in the past with the Eagles or Chargers.

2016-2017 Eagles coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – Jim Schwartz
Defensive Line – Chris Wilson
Linebackers – Ken Flajole
Secondary – Cory Undlin
Safeties – Tim Hauck
Defensive Quality Control/Defensive Line – Phillip Daniels
Defensive Quality Control/Secondary – Dino Vasso

2014-2015 Chargers coaches:

Defensive Coordinator – John Pagano
Defensive Line – Don Johnson
Linebackers – Mike Nolan (2015), Joe Barry (2014)
Assistant Linebackers – Bobby King
Secondary – Ron Milus
Assistant Secondary – Greg Williams
Defensive Quality Control – Chris Shula (2015), Chad Grimm (2014)

How is the GM there not under fire for hiring Meyer? Did Shaud hire Urban on his own? Either way, why would you want to be the HC if the GM is a rubber stamp for an own who doesnt understand football?

Steelers fans on Twitter are currently ripping Rapeburger and Tomlin. Saying that it proves Ben is washed. No shit! He's played 18 years! What dumbasses.
If they fire Tomlin, he needs to pick up the blue courtesy phone, and Jim should be on the other end.
We hate the Steelers, but they are never soft. Tomlin would come in, the religious services would come to an end, and butts would start getting kicked. Just what we need. Well, and a QB.

I think most people who want Frank fired want him gone because the offense has been bad or they don't like the play calling. BUT. if you watch the Warner breakdown on Wentz the plays calls were good. Wentz just missed them .

I am not sure this can be fixed with Wentz. But he's on the roster for another yr so I am preparing for him being here and hoping he makes a giant step forward.

As far as the coaches. Everyone hates Flus. but we were a top 10 scoring D. And top 2?? in takeaways So top 10/2 in the most important stats is pretty impressive. But most get wrapped up in the yards per game allowed.

And as far as the D goes. Everyone bitches about our soft zone. Well about half way through the season Flus called more man to man than probably anytime hes been here. And Ballard even mentioned that. So the D is adjusting. Rock looked a lot better once this happened because he is more of a man corner. Just gonna need another man corner to go with Rock.

Then again I said we'd win the SB this yr so....

If he would stick to man coverage, I would be happy. Mix in a zone from time to time, but rely on man coverage for the most part.

I would think we will be seeing more man coverage. The personal has grown into a group that you can start to increase the man and see how it goes. I'm thinking of our cb situation the last few years and think zone may have been better with who we had. Those guys are maturing. Lets hope it continues.

I think Rock was misplaced in zone and played poorly. On the other hand Rhodes was more proficient in zone and thats why he was so much better last yr than this yr. And Rock came on later in the yr with M2M

We really did play a lot more man this yr.

So the team has not dismissed GM Mike Mayock yet. But it looks like they are going to interview GM candidates - does Mayock have to re-interview to keep his current job? I do like Carr, and more than Wentz. Having said that, Derek Carr? That is who we are pining for now? Have we really sank so low in our expectations of what we need out of a signal caller that David Carr is the answer to our problems?
I'll pass.
It will take some form of player or pick to acquire Carr. What has he proven at this point in his career except being a serviceable starter who cant win big games and is inconsistent at best. You can argue his weapons, you can argue the fact that his franchise moved, blah blah. Bottom line is Derek Carr is average, and to give up ANYTHING for a QB right now, he better be a substantial upgrade over Carson.
I still think we go Trubisky, Mariota or Winston. I hope Winton, because I think he brings the best things that Wentz does but has way better vision on the field and can get through his progressions. He's aggressive, and throws picks, but I do think his vision is miles ahead of Carson and he could be acquired for nothing.

Food for thought

Do teams get comp picks for coaches and executives who get promotions elsewhere?

Yes, for minority coaches and executives.

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-owners-pass-resolution-rewarding-teams-for-developing-minority-coaches-execs

NFL owners approved a proposal that will reward teams for developing minority coaches and front office executives who go on to become head coaches and general managers for other organizations, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday.

The measure is subject to NFL Players Association approval, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Teams that lose a minority coach or executive to a head coach or general manager job with another team will receive a third-round compensatory pick for two consecutive years, per Pelissero. If a team loses a minority coach and an executive to HC and GM roles, that club will receive a third-round compensatory pick for three consecutive years.

According to the resolution, a team is eligible to receive draft pick compensation if the candidate in question has been "employed by the employer-club for a minimum of two years." There can be no break in employment between teams.

NFL executive VP of football operations Troy Vincent said this resolution compliments "the overall collection of things we're doing to try to increase mobility among, in particular Black coaches, and females as well."

Earlier this year, the NFL expanded the Rooney Rule to require additional interviews of minority candidates.

Kind of like the woman who has married six different losers who all beat her, but still is attracted to losers.

Wow, so bad and so true all at the same time

Now that Doug Pederson is the Jacksonville head coach, he may poach one or two members of the coaching staff from the offensive side of the ball:

Expect Doug Pederson to give Press Taylor (now a Colts offensive assistant) consideration for a role with the Jaguars and Mike Caldwell (Buccaneers ILBs coach) as a candidate for defensive coordinator. Caldwell played and coached with Pederson with the Eagles.

Dodds interviewed for the Steelers GM job - their current GM is leaving the position after the NFL draft.

https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2022/02/04/pittsburgh-steelers-general-manager-search-kevin-colbert-art-rooney-mike-tomlin/stories/202202040098

The Steelers have interviewed three more candidates as they expand their search for a general manager to replace Kevin Colbert.

Team president Art Rooney II interviewed all three candidates when he was in Mobile, Ala., this week for the Senior Bowl — Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds, Los Angeles Chargers director of player personnel JoJo Wooden and Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden.

Colbert and coach Mike Tomlin were also in Mobile and likely participated in the interview sessions.

Even though the search for Colbert’s replacement has begun, Rooney said it is likely that person will not be hired until Colbert officially steps down after the draft.

Dodds has said he would be extremely picky when looking for a GM gig. This seems like the type of place he would want.

So, he would go from one team looking for a QB to another one looking for a QB.

Yep. Owner is patient, supportive, doesn’t make big changes often, and not too meddling. Tomlin is fine and Dodds could replace him in near future.

We haven’t seen it in outcome yet but NFL types really think highly of this organization. We never used to get poached like this. It is a very good sign

The Colts now have a few more openings on the coaching staff. Groh is making a lateral move - which means the Colts could have blocked that if they wanted to do so.

The Jaguars agreed to terms with Press Taylor as their offensive coordinator, source said.

The 34-year-old Taylor — brother of Bengals coach Zac Taylor, and the guy who called the “Philly Special” — reunites with Doug Pederson in Jacksonville.

Montgomery is an expert in RPOs. Big part of his role in Indianapolis was sharing his knowledge of them to that staff.

The Eagles plan to interview Morocco Brown this week for a high-ranking front office position:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/05/09/report-eagles-interviewing-morocco-brown-for-high-ranking-position/

Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman is remaking the front office.

After interviewing Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt over the weekend, the Eagles will interview Colts director of scouting Morocco Brown this week, Geoff Mosher of insidethebirds.com reports. The job is unspecified other than being “a high-ranking executive position.”

The Eagles reportedly hired Charles Walls from the Browns as their new director of player personnel, Senior scouts Ian Cunningham and Brandon Brown left for promotions as assistant General Managers with the Bears and Giants, respectively. Vice president of football operations Catherine Raiche is expected to join the Browns.

The Eagles reportedly fired director of scouting operations Casey Weidl as well as player personnel executive T.J. McCreight, southwest area scout Shawn Heinlen and scouting assistant Evan Pritt. Senior executive Tom Donahoe also is leaving the organization.

Brown interviewed for the Steelers’ General Manager job and earlier this offseason had an interview with the Bears before they hired Ryan Poles as their new G.M.

Brown joined the Colts in 2016 and also has worked in Cleveland, Washington and Chicago after breaking into the league as an intern with the Colts in 2000.

Derice gone. Brown maybe leaving. Dodds always a threat to leave.

Its good when your people move up because it means you are doing things right and well. Sucks to lose talent though.

Losing Brown before Dodds goes to the Stealers hurts because you have to think Roc takes his place.

If you are known for having people that get promoted and hired by other companies for better positions. You get better candidates wanting to work for your company. Something my previous company has yet to figure out.

Dodds interviewed for the Steelers GM job - their current GM is leaving the position after the NFL draft.

In addition to Dodds, the Steelers are also going to interview Morocco Brown for the GM position:

After assembling a lengthy interview list for their GM opening, the Steelers decided to promote from within the organization and named Omar Khan the next GM.

They also named Andy Weidl as the Assistant GM.

Furthermore, the more recent reports out of Philadelphia indicate that the Eagles will probably select someone other than Morocco Brown for their front office opening.

So it appears that Dodds and Brown might be with the Colts for another year.

Looks like Morocco Brown is in line for a promotion with the Colts.

I had read that the Eagles did really like Morocco and that he had interviewed well, however, they preferred ex-Steeler exec Brandon Hunt a little more. Once the Eagles found out that Hunt was not going to be part of the new Steelers regime, they made a play for Hunt and their interest in Morocco cooled a bit.
