Do you mean lose 2 games as well as lose to the Cheats? B/c we need them to lose at least 3 more games total to win the division if we win out.
Unfortunately after the Cheats they're schedule is super easy, but they've shit the bed against bad teams this year so maybe that's a good thing......

I think that if the Colts beat the Bucs this weekend, then they will make the playoffs.
That would put them at 7-5 with five games remaining. In the swirling morass that is the AFC this year, ten games has a solid chance to make the dance, and eleven should be a near lock. With games against the Texans, the Jags, the Cheats, the Cardinals, and the Raiders, I love their odds of getting to ten wins, possibly eleven.
IF they can beat the Bucs.

To build on this, the AFC East and AFC West teams that have a similar record to ours all have multiple games against each other. If we win one of our three hard games, and sweep the easier ones, we are likely to be in because the others will be cannibalizing each other. Same for the Bills and Cheats. They play each other twice. The most important game we have left is New England, as it may be the tiebreaker. TB and AZ are out of conference games.

OGAAT ...... One game at a time. Right now, I'm still enjoying the win over the Bills, and the Colts' first time over the .500 mark this season. And if they beat the Buccaneers tomorrow, I'll be thrilled with that.
If the Colts take care of business on the field, they won't have to do much scoreboard watching off of the field. Win the games against the teams standing right in front of you, and the rest will almost always take care of itself. Once in a blue moon you'll see teams like the 2008 Patriots and the 1985 Broncos go 11-5 and miss the playoffs, but that is extremely rare. Last year the 2020 Colts would have joined that very short list, but they were bailed out by the fact that Roger Goodell added an additional (7th) playoff spot for each conference.

I'm with you on this Butter, to a degree. I am sick to death of this team being shit at the beginning of the year then struggling to make the playoffs only to be one and done. I feel that is about as far as we can go this year also. We have no pass rush (although I have hopes, slim, that Paye will work out this year. I think there is a good possibility next year), and our receivers don't put fear into anyone. Defensive backs have come along as have our linebackers. We have a great offensive line, an incredible running back and a mediocre quarterback. What gives me hope is that nobody else in the NFL looks unbeatable. My intellect says fuck it but I find that impossible to do. So even though I think we have maybe a 5% chance to go deep into the playoffs, I cling to it like the masochist I apparently am and every freaking Sunday it GO COLTS!!

I love your attitude C&O but this isn't a good team. It is an average team at best. They are incapable of holding onto a lead, which is a sure sign you are not a good team. Good teams bury you when you are down because they can. We cannot. It isn't like they have blown leads in only one game. It is the pattern. You have watched enough football to know this kind of team that is always this close and if it just weren't for this call or this play we would have won. Each loss is a 'heartbraker'. We are 6-6. The results speak for themselves.

Well on the positive side, the Raiders lost and the Broncos are losing. Either the Patsies or Bills will lose tomorrow, so we are in better shape than before today started. The two teams that fucked us over were the sorry ass Bengals and Ravens. Having said that, the Colts put themselves in this sorry ass position of having to rely on other teams, I fucking hate that. If the Colts win out though, they will be 11-6 and be in the playoffs, so it really is all up to them. I will add this though, the Colts have had one of the most brutal schedules I have ever seen this year.

There's a lot of moving parts in the AFC. But I ran through it real quick and ended us at 11-6 in the #6 seed against Tennessee at 12-5 in the #3 seed in the Wildcard game.
My bias has us running the table but interestingly... If we drop one to either NE or AZ, we remain the #6 seed at 10-7 because we'd win tiebreakers over BAL and BUF.
At least in one universe.

In my specific scenario, if we lose to either NE or AZ, then IND, BAL, and BUF finish at 10-7.
Three non-division teams, no team swept the other two, so conference record comes into play. IND #6, BAL #7, BUF out

Like others have said, the Ravens have overtimed, and 66-yard field goaled, and Colts' practice squad DB'd their way to some crazy victories this season.
They've got CLE, GB, LAR, CIN, and PIT. Could be ugly.
And TEN wasn't playing well before the bye. I can't see them dropping to the Jags or Texans again. But it's not the craziest thing in the world to have them losing to PIT, MIA, and SF. That's 10-7.
Crazy month upcoming.

Another interesting stat. The Colts have the best record in the AFC against conference opponents at 6-3 And since the 0-3 start.... one of .... if not the best record... in the NFL as in no one has a better record than 7-3 since week 3 I may be off by a team or two but we are one of the better teams since week 3

Well I think it may have helped by pushing Cleveland down with a loss, but they won. BUT, a HUGE BUT, Lamar's ankle was injured. They have slid to 4th. Without Lamar, they could easily go on a slide to end the season and we could conceivably pass them in the WC race. Def so if we go 4-0 but even possibly by going 3-1. So, I suppose now we actually want Cincy to win this game with SF?

In my rat's ass of an opinion, the Patriots and the Colts are the 2 best teams in the AFC. The Patriots have the record to show for it, the Colts have the ability but not the record.
Before the season started, I predicted that these 2 teams would meet in the 2021 AFC Championship game ........ but the Colts must win this game in order for that scenario to have a realistic chance of coming to fruition. Falling to 7-7 and losing to yet another good team will unquestionably have the Colts on the outside looking in, needing to win all of their 3 remaining games and hoping like crazy for a lot of help. On the other hand, a win over the Patriots will have them sitting fairly pretty at 8-6 overall with a 2nd signature win of the 2021 season (the 1st was the win over the Bills.)
o
o
Regardless of what just happened with the Bills and the Bengals both losing to NFC teams, our season is going to come down to the game against the Patriots.
All season long, we have been like a cat chasing its tail, just a step behind where we need to be in both individual games as well as in the standings ...... and if we lose to the Patriots, it will be more of the same.
So we can scoreboard watch and root against other AFC-contending teams all we want ...... if we lose to the Patriots, it will be just one more example of us being a small step too slow to be regarded as a bona-fide contender for a conference championship.

I actually had the Colts more in mind when I wrote my comment. Specifically how we blow double digit leads and lose games to pretty much any good team we play. Since the Cheats are probably the best team we'll play this year I don't see this changing, except for maybe not getting that double digit lead at all.
Obviously though, I hope I'm wrong and that you are right.

Used the playoff machine again and plugged in some reasonable picks. I have a hard time coming up with a scenario where the Colts don't get in. Personally, I don't think it's a stretch that they win out.
TEN could realistically lose to SF and MIA which would give the Colts the division lead with a week left in the season. That's wild.
Believe it or not, with those two losses, TEN has a backdoor shot at missing the playoffs. If BUF beats NE next week, that opens the door for MIA to win out and bump TEN. Tie-breakers would dictate MIA over NE and NE over TEN.
MIA hasn't lost since Halloween. Hasn't been a murderer's row, but they've taken down NE and BAL. So that's interesting.
The AFC North logjam surprisingly could end up only producing one playoff team in the division champ. Also interesting.
Not saying I expect it, but it's actually not the craziest set of circumstances that lead to the Colts being the #2 seed.

For all intents and purposes, Jimmy Garoppolo just single-handedly screwed the Colts out of a legitimate chance of catching and passing the Titans for the AFC South title ...... Tennessee might lose to the Dolphins next week, but I don't think that there's any way that they will lose to the Texans in the season finale unless they allow Deshaun Watson to play (which they won't.)

For Harbaugh to cry about the Bengals throwing late to try and get Burrow to 500 yards passing shows what kind of front running bitch he is. It was like a month ago that the Ravens were calling run plays late in an already decided game to keep their 100 yard rushing streak alive. F*** that guy.

I've always agreed with this. By nature of a tournament, the best team doesn't necessarily always hoist the trophy. It's great for drama and entertainment. But it's extra satisfying when you look back say your team would've beaten anyone in its path.
I feel that way about '06 and I don't even think that was the best Colts team. But...
-suspect run-D held held Larry Johnson to like 30yds after two of the greatest back-to-back rushing seasons ever.
-beat a loaded Ravens who had a defense that I've read journalists argue was as good or better than 2000's.
-took down the Pats, obviously.
Not really any what-ifs with that team like with, say, the '05 Steelers or something. Win the Super Bowl, obviously. But some cherries on top are nice.

While I agree that beating some specific teams along the way is great, I will take a championship any way we can get it. You play who you play, just fucking win it. If we take down the pats or titans along the way then thats just makes it a bit sweeter.

The Chiefs where thrilled both times they came to Indy for a playoff games. If you make the playoffs in the NFL, you have a lot of work before you hoist a trophy.
Anyone who thinks the Pats will be easy second time around needs to think again. The NFC is a weak sister compared to the teams in AFC playoff hunt. The isnt a soft touch for the Colts IF they make the playoffs

Same here. The 2006 Super Bowl win would have been just as meaningful if the Colts had had to go to San Diego to beat the Chargers instead of beating the Patriots at home ...... although Marlin Jackson's INT of Tom Brady had me crying tears of joy because the Colts were going to the Super Bowl for the first time since I was in Kindergarten ...... and I was actually rooting for the Cowboys, because I was copying my older brother Pete who was also rooting for them. I became a Colts fan the next year (1971), when I was in 1st grade.

5 out of those 10 teams won their first playoff game. 2 other teams (the 1989 Oilers and the 2013 Packers) lost games that went right down to the wire.
I agree with the author of that article that almost all of those teams were undeserving playoff teams with no shot of advancing to the Super Bowl, but they all were not necessarily easy outs in the playoffs ...... only 3 of them were beaten soundly in their first playoff game.

You may be correct about every team not being a tough out, but the citation that you used was not a good one to make your point. More than half of the teams in that article either won their first playoff game, or lost a nail-biter that went right down to the wire.
The Colts losing to the Jets by a score of 41-0 was a good example that you alluded to, as are the Colts' victories over the Broncos in 2003 (41-10) and 2004 (49-24.)

They are in first place, but they are not necessarily winning. The Titans are 4-3 since he went down with an injury, and one of those 4 wins was due to Jimmy Garoppolo playing awful than it was to the Titans playing well.
As apballin pointed out, there is a good chance that Henry may not be close to 100% if he does return for the playoffs, but he is almost without a doubt their best player. I think that apballin is probably correct, and that he won't be much of a force that he usually is should he return for the post-season.
Also, I agree that Jonathan Taylor has been more valuable than has Henry. I said that he was the Titans' best player, not necessarily that he was a candidate for MVP.

Whatever ofcourse they’re tough every NFL team is tough when they wanna play
But it’s hard to beat a team twice because of manhood alone, let alone 3 times in the same season. Especially the way the Titans beat the Colts at home that last game you know that would make for some great reminder film.
The Titans just piss me off they lullaby everyone to sleep without Henry and Gomer Pyle ass QB while the defense plays the old Belicheck cheat pull hold fake injury to stop drive arguments with the ref for 10 minutes so your defense gets a rest fuckin cheat to win by any means shit

Not so fast ...... the Ravens now have to play the Browns (at Cleveland), the Packers, the Bengals (who beat the hell out of them by a score of 41-17 on their home-field earlier this season), the Rams, and a rematch with the Steelers.

6 weeks ago, the Ravens had a record of 8-3 while holding the #1-seed in the AFC.
Today, the Ravens are 8-8 ...... the only way in which they can squeeze into the playoffs as the 7th and final seed would be for them to win their game against the Steelers, and for the Colts to lose to the Jaguars.
So if the Colts beat the Jaguars and officially knock the Ravens out of the playoffs (regardless of the outcome of their game against the Steelers), we will have given them a nice, swift kick in the nuts to return the favor of what they did to us on a nationally-televised game back in October.

The Colts are currently in the position of the #6-seed ...... even though the Raiders beat us head-on and currently have the same record as we do (9-7), they are currently on the outside looking in at #8, behind the Chargers.
The only way in which the Colts can move up into the #5 seed is if they win today, the Chargers beat the Raiders, and if either the Dolphins beat the Patriots or the Jets beat the Bills ...... that said, just winning and getting in is the obvious priority, whether it lands us the #5-seed, the #6-seed, or the #7-seed (all of which are possibilities if the Colts beat the Jaguars this afternoon.)
