View Full Version : More Colts added to COVID Reserve List - Wentz, Kelly, and Pascal

Not what I wanted to see today - this will not help Wentz and Kelly get ready for Week 1.

These moves may impact the final 53 man roster decisions - or rather, delay some decisions because the Colts will get an extra roster spot to replace each COVID reserve player.

https://twitter.com/Colts/status/1432391780675244032

We have placed C Ryan Kelly, WR Zach Pascal and QB Carson Wentz on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1432402821962518531

The three players the Colts placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list today -- QB Carson Wentz, WR Zach Pascal and C Ryan Kelly -- are all close contacts with a staff member who tested positive, per source. Back in five days as long as they remain negative and asymptomatic.

https://twitter.com/jimayello/status/1432393297302073351

On Carson Wentz, this was supposed to be a big week for him in terms of his recovery. The Colts wanted to see him string together back-to-back days of full practice and gauge how the foot responded.

That can't happen now. Not this week.

Maybe I’m just paranoid but the lack is vaccinated players is going to make a run at the title all but impossible. Wentz, if he isn’t vaccinated-and seeing him always in a mask makes me believe he isn’t- is going to be extremely difficult to overcome. Every time he comes in contact with COVID it’s 5 more days without practice-something he desperately needs. I am beginning to believe this team is going to go nowhere fast. Nelson isn’t vaccinated (if he had been he wouldn’t have been quarantined for 5 days) Leonard appears not to be either. Hard enough to deal with injuries much less this shit

Asked Frank Reich on Friday night if Nelson's situation drove home the fact that being unvaccinated could cause guys to miss a game as a close contact.

His response: "I don't like to play that card, but it is what it is. So yes, it does show that."

https://twitter.com/JoelAErickson/status/1432400950703104001

More Reich: "We'll continue to educate the players. I still respect, greatly respect, the choice that each individual player has. We'll continue to educate and give whatever counsel we can. We recommend that every player should be vaccinated, but we respect individual choice."

Keefer retracted his earlier comment - he now indicates that Kelly is not fully vaccinated.

So that means that Nelson, Kelly, Wentz and Pascal will all miss a mandatory 5 days due to being a close contact with someone and not being vaccinated.
Nelson was lucky - his timing included the last preseason game and the weekend so he didn't miss any significant practice time. Kelly, Wentz and Pascal weren't so lucky and will miss a significant amount of practice leading up to Week 1 - especially for Kelly and Wentz coming off their injuries.

Also bizarre is how NFL players will take some pretty strong, dangerous, toxic and addictive pain killers so readily and often; Drugs that show up in you liver and kidneys almost immediately after ingesting or injection. Drugs legal and otherwise that have been proven to cause long-term damage and cause addictions that have ruined careers and even lives, yet have such an issue with an FDA approved vaccination...

Be interesting to see if this 5 day ban has any affect on Colt vaccination rate. This is going to be a tough team to root for if they lose games because of pure stupidity. The NFL has made it crystal clear that they are going to put you at competitive disadvantage for not getting vaccinated. Plus this Wentz idiot is now the face of the franchise. Jeez how shitty is that?

The vaccination rate will likely be going down tomorrow. The Colts were at about 75% vaccinated at the 90 player roster limit. Once the team is down to the 53 man roster + 16 player practice squad, the vaccination rate will probably be around 70%, maybe even slightly below it.

Got to wonder what a guy like Buckner REALLY thinks about shit like this. I can’t imagine being in a locker room with so many supposed “team leaders” risking the season. However, Ryan Kelly was placed on the COVID reserve list for being a close contact.

That would indicate that either:
1) he has not received both doses of a two dose vaccine
2) he is not documented as fully vaccinated due to timing - 14 days haven't elapsed after the final dose
3) he is not vaccinated after all.

Partial immunity after two weeks for most. I got a second dose of moderna after a month, so that got me to full immunity two weeks later.

The Johnson gets you to partial in 2 weeks, but is only about 77% of total immunity on average,

Because of variants, booster shots will be necessary, and you will be elgible after 8 months

Not very many legitimate reasons.
I'm qualified to read the science and understand the data. The side effects are incredibly mild. Serious side effects are incredibly rare. It is not, as many want to say, some sort of "brand new technology" as it has been researched for 15 years since the first SARS outbreak.

And its worth pointing out that many who of the same people who want to distrust medical science on this are perfectly willing to take the dangerous and ineffective drugs like hydroxycholoroquine and ivermectin. This reveals that the real issue is not a legitimate scientific skepticism but partisan rejection based on some misguided notion of liberty. The fact that you invoked totalitarianism just because someone (me) might think another person is an idiot and fool for not getting the vaccine reveals the partisan and politicization of this. I'm not the government, I'm not trying to force anyone to do anything. But the mere fact that you don't *legally have to* take the vaccine is not a reason to not take the vaccine. You should do it because you choose to do it, because it is both the responsible and intelligent thing to do. And if you can't understand that, if you can't trust standard legitimate medical science, then your politics are leading you down a road of foolishness.

The fact that the mods of the Colts subreddit permabanned me for this sentiment is far more totalitarian than anyone trying to halt a significant public health threat.

Reich had an interview today where he discussed vaccinations. He and Ballard are completely for the team getting them. They think it is good medically and give the teams with the most vaccinated players a competitive advantage. They have been clear with Colt players. The concern with requiring them is long term. They are trying to build to compete year in and year out. Player resentment can make that difficult (Green Bay). It appears they have chosen to take short term lumps (I read that as if they need to screw this season because of COVID so be it) to insure the long term happiness of the players. I understand their position. I don't think it will work out well for us either short term or long term. I don't know how players that are vaccinated like Buckner are going to be pleased with players like Wentz if and when he misses games because of his vaccine views. It is bound to cause turmoil.

I am commenting only on the effect vaccinationing or not will have on this team from a football standpoint. I don't think I am qualified to judge personal decisions of people I don't even know (and I've been a practicing physician for over 35 years). I am vaccinated as is my entire family. This harms the Colts from a football perspective, and that pisses me off.

There are other reasons why a person should get the vaccine.

Love thy neighbor. The hospitals are full with Covid patients. People with other serious medical conditions are having problems getting care. The hospital workers from the doctors all the way down to the people mopping the floors are exhausted.

The nurses the doctors the people doing the paperwork are all at risk in a giant building filled with the virus. And if we can’t get people to go get vaccinated this will drag on.

And for those people who think taking a parasite drug meant for cows and horses, because some idiot on the Internet said it was a good idea, go fuck yourself. I’m by no means an anti vaxer(fully vaccinated), but I tend to have a little more sympathy for people who are hesitant.

Personally, I know 3 people who have had serious reactions to the moderna vaccine, including a co worker who nearly died from blood clots, which she was told were a direct result of the vaccine. FWIW, she’s 36 and in excellent health and now she’s on blood thinners for at least 6 months.

It is being reported that half the Colts starting offense is not vaccinated. This is not only going to be hugely detrimental to whatever chances they have at winning, I believe it is going to have a very harmful effect on the fanbase. With so many star players apparently anti-vaxx it will turn off many fans. I'll watch but I will not get emotionally involved with this team. When the Colts lose I'm in a shit mood. I'll be damned if I'm going to ruin even one day because of a bunch of anti-vaxxers. I don't see how I'll ever get joy out of rooting for Wentz. It will be interesting to see if Reich can keep this team from imploding on itself. I'm guessing he doesn't. Losing in of itself makes for finger pointing. Losing because some of your teammates refused to get a vaccine will piss off anyone who is a winner at heart even more.

There were a few interesting names cut yesterday if the Colts want a look at another young QB.

The two QB's drafted after Jacob Eason (4th round, Pick 122) in the 2020 NFL draft were both cut.

James Morgan (4th round, Pick 125) and Jake Fromm (5th round, Pick 167) were both waived yesterday. However, the Colts may be OK finding a vet as the 3rd string and just keeping him on the practice squad until Ehlinger comes back from injury.

COVID-19 is more comparable to the flu than it is small pox and polio. It’s not going anywhere.

It has to do with the rate of mutations between them. Small pox and polio are relatively stable so once a vaccine is made it works. Flu and COVID mutate into new strains continuously. This is most likely with us long term.

Mac Jones and Justin Fields have both looked good. I liked Jones, might be too immobile for Reich though. Reportedly they had interest in Fields. Him playing Lawrence would have been fun to watch twice a year.
