"every head coach/starting quarterback combo won the Super Bowl within their first five years together or didn’t win it at all."

go away pagano.

Well the author is wrong that this data "makes the odds low" that Pagano + Luck will ever win a superbowl (because that's not how probability works), but it at least is some evidence that Pagano sucks.
For this and many reasons, Pagano should be fired.

pagano is maybe the worst coach i have ever seen.

it is a fucking travesty that he is employed by the colts

Dumbass stat considering coaches don't last 5 years anymore

Here we will be next February wondering why the hell Ballard didn't fuck Pagano off from the get go.

Pretty sure he knows deep inside he will regret it but I also think the call came from above to give him another year. He went along with it, maybe as a necessary evil, to have an excuse to fire him next off season.
As if there isn't enough evidence for Irsay to do just that.

You've watched a lot of football, dude. I'm glad you put that 'maybe' in there. Chuck stinks but he isn't the worst.

Yeah, like I was thinking of Frank Kush who was the HC during the 1984 transition to Indy. HC of the Baltimore Colts in 1982 and 1983 and of the Indy Colts in 1984.

HC record? 11-28-1.

Or Rod Dowhower from 1985-1986 with a 5-24 record.

Or Lindy Infante from 1996 - 1997 with a 12-20 record.

Since then:

32-32-0 = Jim Mora, 1998 - 2001
85-27-0 = Tony Dungy, 2002 - 2008
26-22-0 = Jim Caldwell, 2009 - 2011
49-31-0 = Pags, 2012 - Present

While Dungy was the only true standout of the crowd, none were horrible. Of course, having Peyton or Luck as your QB covers over a TON of warts.

Hmmmm.....interesting.

088 - 135 - 0 = Indy Colts record prior to Peyton (39.5% win rate)
192 - 112 - 0 = Indy Colts record in Manning/Luck eras (63.2% win rate)

How much is a franchise QB worth again?

Cheers,

Trump won the big prize. Pagano? Not so much

To a coach like Pagano? Remind me the details of his contract extension.

Great question to ask the Cleveland Browns who can't find one.

Thinking about your list, made me think about some of the other HC's the Colts had. One was Teddy Marchibroda who was 30-34 from 1992-1995, but he did have the Colts in the AFC championship game against the Steelers which they should have won.

Yep, pretty sure it wasn't Ballard's call. Unless Pagano mysteriously transforms into a decent head coach, this should be his last year. 5 years of watching Pags has been enough for me though, he's pretty clueless.

To be fair Clappy is really, really, really, really fucking horrible.

I like this

Colts general manager Chris Ballard said earlier in the offseason that Pagano status with the team won’t be determined based on wins and losses but how the younger players develop under him.

Pags will just under cut someone like Monachino or Chud to save his job. He is a master at selling people out.

Hopefully Ballard will have enough influence to still get rid of Clappy rather than be forced to keep him after Irsay again falls for Clappy's "We're getting better at chopping wood" BS.
